Graphic Design Work

Some event posters done for some events at my local library.  When doing design work for the library I was asked to use Fruitger font, incorporate the library logo, and brand colors.  One of the fun aspects of these projects was trying to figure out how to incorporate these and still make the overall piece cohesive while I stayed true to my own design aesthetic.  I believe I was successful in this attempt, though all artists I'm sitting here nitpicking over every little detail in retrospect.

Fairy Tale Series

In May 2010 I graduated from Kendall College of Art & Design with a BFA in Drawing.  In my final year I was required to create my thesis show.  I decided to focus on creating a series of drawings based upon fairy tales, depicting the scenes that have often been edited out or tamed for modern viewers.  Each drawing is 3x4 ft on Rives BFK using graphite and watercolor.

Red Riding Hood

Cinderella- The Wicked Stepsister

Bluebeard

Sleeping Beauty
Snow White & the Seven Dwarves
The Girl Without Hands

A Fairy in Watercolor

I recently did a poster for my library's upcoming visit from Holly Black (Spiderwick Chronicles, Tithe, Curse Workers).  I did the inks of this as a potential image to go in the poster, but ended up cutting it.  I like the drawing however and decided to do some watercolor practice.

Welcome to Rat Girl Studios

Rat Girl Studios was born a couple years back in the early days of art school.  As Sophmore at Kendall College of Art and Design I was taking a 'Life Drawing for Illustrators' course.  At the time I was also taking a regular life drawing course and became a bit bored just drawing naked people .  This lead to me sometimes tweaking my drawings a bit.  One of these 'tweaks' was adding a rat to the drawings, whether it be sitting on someone's shoulder or on the floor.  My professor loved my little additions and showed disappointment when a rat did not appear.  Thus rats became a regular fixture and Rat Girl Studios was born. Despite the inclusion of rats in my work has dropped off over the years the name continues to live on. This blog will mostly be featuring finished pieces.  If you are interested in seeing quick sketches and any other random musings I may want to share be sure to check out my tumblr or DA account.

Thank you for visiting and hope you do so on a regular basis.
